Possum Merino Silk Scarves
Possum wool is the only new natural fibre to be produced in the last 150 years. The New Zealand Brush Tail Possum is the size of a large cat and has thick luxurious fur. It has no natural enemies in New Zealand and has multiplied to alarming numbers.
Possum fur has a hollow core. The only other creature with similar fur is the Polar Bear. This unique property makes the fur extremely warm while also making it very light and fluffy.
Merino wool has been chosen as a carrier yarn because it is considered the best natural fibre to complement the characteristics of the fur. In addition 10% silk is added into the mix to provide a silky smooth finish to the shawls and scarves woven from this material.
